The Cook County Clerk's Office issued the following statement today from Clerk Cedric Giles following the death of Cook County Commissioner Dennis Deer:  "I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of Commissioner Dennis Deer, a distinguished leader in Cook County government and a passionate advocate for the underprivileged in all our communities.

Representing one of the most diverse districts in Cook County, Commissioner Deer was a compassionate advocate for inclusion, and he fought for government initiatives to enhance mental health services, reform the criminal justice system, and support community development initiatives.

As a public health professional and chairman of the county's Health and Hospitals Committee, Commissioner Deer advocated for expanded access to affordable healthcare as a human right for every resident of Cook County.  He was also a strong advocate for fair elections and democracy and a loyal partner with the Clerk’s Office in the administration of our electoral process.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dennis was a beloved husband, father, and friend. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering support made him a cherished figure on the Cook County Board of Commissioners.

On behalf of the entire Cook County Clerk’s Office, we send our deepest condolences and prayers during this incredibly difficult time."
